MADONNA and Alex Rodriguez are quietly shopping for love nests on the Upper East Side and on the East End, sources told Page Six.

A knowledgeable real estate source tells us the kabbalah-crazed pop queen and the skirt-chasing power hitter are “discreetly looking at properties between Fifth and Park avenues, from just above 60th Street through the 80s.

“Madonna personally came to look at one house a couple of months ago, and Alex has been looking recently,” the insider said. “We’re talking about private, double-width mansions in the vicinity of $30 million to $60 million.”

Madge and A-Rod are also interested in scoring a house “with a garage that you can drive into for additional privacy - although those are rare and hard to come by,” our spy added. Another source said they were also looking in the Hamptons.

Madonna’s flack didn’t return a call or e-mail, but A-Rod’s reps denied the two were looking for real estate.

Rodriguez, meanwhile, continues to try to unload the old marital home he shared with ex-wife Cynthia - even dropping the price on the four-bedroom, 4,600-square-foot pad at Trump Park Avenue to $10 million, down from the original $14 million, according to the Post’s Braden Keil.

A-Rod is also willing to rent it unfurnished for $50,000 a month. Madonna, meanwhile, is hanging on to her Central Park West apartment.

Last week, after Page Six revealed he planned on dumping his kids on Thanksgiving to spend the day with Madonna and her kids in New York, a shame-faced A-Rod and Madge flew together on a private jet to Miami, where she performed.

While A-Rod did see his children on the holiday, the lovebirds later flew to Mexico City together for the weekend.

Gay Rights Activist. Friend. Lover. Unifier. Politician. Fighter. Icon. Inspiration. Hero. His life changed history, and his courage changed lives. In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978, a hero for all Americans. Academy Award winner Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk under the direction of Academy Award nominee Gus Van Sant in the new movie filmed on location in San Francisco from an original screenplay by Dustin Lance Black and produced by Academy Award winners Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen. The film charts the last eight years of Harvey Milk’s life. While living in New York City, he turns 40. Looking for more purpose, Milk and his lover Scott Smith (James Franco) relocate to San Francisco, where they found a small business, Castro Camera, in the heart of a working-class neighborhood that was soon to become a haven for gay people from around the country. With his beloved Castro neighborhood and beautiful city empowering him, Milk surprises Scott and himself by becoming an outspoken agent for change. He seeks equal rights and opportunities for all, and his great love for the city and its people brings him backing from young and old, straight and gay, alike – at a time when prejudice and violence against gays was openly accepted as the norm. With vitalizing support from Scott and new friends and volunteers, Milk plunges headfirst into the choppy waters of politics. He also mentors young street activists like Cleve Jones (Emile Hirsch). Bolstering his public profile with humor, Milk’s actions speak even louder than his gift-of-gab words. Soon, he is known all across the city and even beyond, but his persistent determination to be a part of city government drives him and Scott apart. While making his fourth run for public office, Milk takes a new lover, Jack Lira (Diego Luna). The latest campaign is a success, as Milk is elected supervisor for the newly zoned District 5. Milk serves San Francisco well while lobbying for a citywide ordinance protecting people from being fired because of their orientation – and rallying support against a proposed statewide referendum to fire gay schoolteachers and their supporters; he realizes that this fight against Proposition 6 represents a pivotal precipice for the gay rights movement. At the same time, the political agendas of Milk and those of another newly elected supervisor, Dan White (Josh Brolin), increasingly diverge and their personal destinies tragically converge. Milk’s platform was and is one of hope – a hero’s legacy that resonates in the here and now.

Her fashion choices represent a laid back and cool Hollywood style and yet still convey a sophisticated, timeless, and chic overtone.

Lead stylist for the show, Agata Maskiewics, offers tips on creating the show's looks without breaking the bank.

· Reinvent the basics that you may already own or are easy and inexpensive to acquire. For example, a great look from this first season of "The Starter Wife" is an outfit based on the ultimate classic pairing of a black skirt and a white blouse. What makes this look special and current is the play on proportions by coupling a body conscious, high-waisted skirt with an oversized belt cinched at the waist. In addition to being easy to put together and based on simple components you can purchase almost anywhere, this is also an excellent outfit to carry you from the office to dinner. Another added benefit: all of the pieces can be used in other combinations in your wardrobe.

· Black is back as we move into the cooler seasons, and it is the perfect background for juicy rum punch hues and jewel toned accessories. This trend lends itself to reinventing simple black items in classic shapes that you already have in your closet. Start with a basic pair of black pants and a black knit turtleneck as your foundation and build upon that to showcase your accessories.

· Accessorize. This is the best way to create trendy new looks for less. Instead of buying a whole new outfit, pick a trend that you like and invest in accessories in the spirit of that trend. For example, if you feel like you can't live without the amazing lace pieces from Prada but can't cope with the price tag, then find fun shoes and pair them with a simple black dress. DSW.com offers a few lace heels that would be perfect. The Rampage Pamela Lace Platform Pump is a low $49.95 and the classic pump like CL by Laundry Garbo Satin & Lace Pump is an amazing $39.95.

· Befriend your tailor. The most important part of creating a fabulous look at any price is to make sure the items you buy fit you well; so if you need to spend a little extra on tailoring, go for it, it'll be worth it. And always wear your clothes with confidence; no one will have time to wonder how much you paid for your wardrobe if you enter a room walking tall and with a dazzling smile.

NEW YORK — Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton are paying homage to Stephen Sprouse.

To show their admiration for the late designer and artist, next month, Jacobs, Vuitton’s creative director, is using his hit 2001 collaboration with Sprouse for a new, limited edition collection of accessories and ready-to-wear. Jacobs even doffed his duds again, posing in the nude painted in Sprouse’s graffiti for Harper’s Bazaar’s January issue.

This comes at a time of renewed buzz about Sprouse, whose graffiti prints and Day-Glo clothes became a defining aesthetic of the early Eighties. It coincides with a retrospective — called “Rock on Mars” — at Deitch Projects’ 18 Wooster Street gallery from Jan. 8 to Feb. 28, and “The Stephen Sprouse Book,” by Roger Padilha and Mauricio Padilha, due out from Rizzoli New York on Feb. 1.

The impetus for the new line came when Deitch approached Jacobs and Vuitton about doing something related to the retrospective.

“I proposed putting together a Vuitton version of the Pop Shop, which was Keith Haring’s concept…not reissuing products that we had done with Stephen, but doing things that were similar or new,” Jacobs said.

Sprouse died in 2004, and the new tribute pieces, which hit Vuitton boutiques worldwide Jan. 9, pick up almost seamlessly where the 2001 collaboration left off.

Jacobs took two iconic Sprouse motifs — the graffiti and the rose — and interpreted them in Day-Glo shades of pink, green and orange over the Monogram print. The motifs are featured on Vuitton’s Keepall, Speedy and Neverfull bag styles, as well as basketball sneaker boots, pumps, sunglasses, headbands and wristbands, and small leather goods like wallets and coin purses. The rtw includes a mackintosh raincoat with a graffiti and monogram lining, graffiti leggings and a long-sleeve neon minidress featuring the rose design.

“I tried to take what Stephen had done at Vuitton and then kind of flip it in my head, and make it Vuitton’s work for Stephen, not Stephen’s work for Vuitton,” Jacobs said. “I just felt it was a funny way to play with it, to pretend to be Sprouse for a bit, and use the work that he did, and then bring it back to the work that he did before I collaborated with him.”

The original collaboration has its origins in the time when Jacobs was looking for a Paris apartment. When he looked at Charlotte Gainsbourg’s space on the rue du Bac, he stumbled across a Vuitton Monogram canvas trunk, which the actress’s legendary father, Serge, had painted over in black. It eventually inspired him to collaborate with Sprouse for spring 2001.

“For me, this monogram graffiti was the first milestone of our permanent reinvention of our history,” said Vuitton president and chief executive officer Yves Carcelle.

The uncompromising, head-to-toe Sprouse aesthetic is timeless, Jacobs noted.

“It almost becomes a classic, like a Chanel jacket, or a smoking,” he said. “It’s this idea of a head-to-toe look in this brash, neon, rock ’n’ roll, edgy, street-informed style. Sprouse really best personified it.”

Vuitton will pay further tribute with a special Web site — welovesprouse.com — slated to go live Dec. 15. It will feature a mix of interviews with people who knew Sprouse, including Debbie Harry, Candy Pratts Price and Patricia Field. In the clips, they muse on their relationship with Sprouse, and his lasting influence on the fashion and art worlds. There will also be a feature called “Scrawl the Wall,” where visitors can post comments, and a special section on Sprouse’s New York, highlighting some of the artist’s favorite haunts in the city.

“The thing that excited us the most is that somebody who disappeared years ago is going to be the center of life worldwide thanks to that for the next few months,” Carcelle said. “We really want to celebrate a friend.”

As for the Harper’s Bazaar story, it was shot by Terry Richardson and features Jacobs naked, his body painted in Sprouse-style graffiti and his relevant portions covered by one of the new Vuitton bags.

Soon after, I reviewed the Go, Diego, Go Dinosaur Rescue game for the Wii. It's an ideal game for a preschooler.

For starters, Diego can't "die," which makes it a lot tamer than most electronics games. And it includes a little window in the left hand corner of the screen that instructs the player on how to hold the Wii remote and what to do. It's a fabulous introduction to playing with a Wii and using the remote. At the time of my review, it was selling for $49.99 but now that it's been on the market for awhile - it's listed at $17.99! This is a steal and a great deal for the holidays - I definitely recommend this game for young Wii users.

------------------

3.) And new this season to the Wii is Dora's version of this game - Dora Saves the Snow Princess.

It's pretty much the same concept of the Diego game with a very similar feel and interface, only it's Dora and she's on a mission to save the Snow Princess. Again, tons of fun and great for the younger Wii users.

It retails for $39.99 but is selling for $36.99.

4.) P'Kolino Desk. Designed for kids ages 2-6, this desk is light enough to move around easily, has a nice design and offers storage for arts and crafts. It's $89, read Ciaran's review for details about the desk and to learn how to purchase.

These Polly Pockets come with 4 different dolls and several outfit options so kids can try different outfits. For girls ages 4-6 years.

Any original post I'd come up today would be bound to be badly-written and depressing (only in a different kind of a way), so I'm so glad that I can direct you all to a much more cheerful site for today.

Tricia at the wonderful and fun fashion/crafts/art-related blog Stickers and Donuts was nice enough to interview me and do a feature on me and say all sorts of lovely things about me that are probably more nice than true--not that I don't appreciate them all anyway! And they don't have Jeffrey (the man).

3. By George. Austin is one of those cities that everyone always tells me I'd love to live in. Seeing as how it's in Texas and I have a self-imposed allergy to heat and sunshine, I seriously doubt I'd love it, but I would love to shop at By George, which has two locations in the Austin area.

It's like they've gathered all of my favorite little niche brands together in one place for my shopping pleasure. Martine Sitbon, Madison Marcus, Dosa (that's their Long Ruffle Skirt, at right), Ports 1961: all can be found in their brick-and-mortar stores, with a smaller collection available online. They also have the usual suspects like Chloe, Lanvin, and Proenza Schouler, the latter of which even has a few items in the Sale section at a pretty good discount.

D.C. equivalent: This is a tough one. Maybe if you took the clothes from Muleh and the shoe selection at Hu's Shoes, you'd end up with something akin to By George, but it's still a bit of a stretch. I mean, their Dries Van Noten collection alone would be worth the trip. That stuff is hard to find!

4. Fred Segal. Yeah, so all the "stars" shop here, but I still like their whimsically curated selection of old standbys and innovative collaborations, like the Boat Boots from Sperry Top Sider and Band of Outsiders. Go figure!

I really like the Zero Minus Plus boutique-within-a-store at their Santa Monica location. The TyTree Christmas decoration, at left, is too fun! Sure, it's a little pricey (um, $320), but almost all of the items in Zero Minus Plus are designed to support "individual artists, fair trade and eco products," and that's worth a couple extra bucks, right?

D.C. equivalent: Wow, that's a tough one. Who has clothing and fun tchotches all in one place? I mean, I love me some Commander Salamander, but most of their stuff if pretty mainline and can veer toward kitsch. I suppose Urban Outfitters is a poor man's Fred Segal, but that seems too cruel even to utter those two in the same sentence. I guess Fred will just have to stand on his own for now. Which brings me to the last store...

5. Colette. Yes this is in Paris. No, I've never been to Paris. But I did visit the Colette + Gap pop-up store during Fashion Week in September, so that counts for something. The real store, however, is a veritable treasure trove of unique goodies. Everything from a Marc Jacobs Bugaboo Stroller to a Pantone Notebook are available for the taking. And everytime I see pics of the store, it's chock-full of random mannequins in fabulous frocks, like in the pic at right. Would that the DCGF could merchandise a Goodwill Store that way!

D.C. equivalent: yeah right. There's only one Colette.

So what do you think? What stores would you like to see here in D.C. or where you are? Hmm...

Goodwill’s fashion blog provides detailed knowledge and insight on vintage and contemporary clothing and accessories that are valuable to fashion shoppers.
