Use of Custom Facial Implants for Treatment of Facial Wasting Syndrome

Facial Wasting Syndrome is characterized by the loss of facial tissue and subcutaneous fat that gives cheeks and temples their plumpness. This results in the hollowing of the eyes and a bony, emaciated facial appearance. FWS can occur naturally with age, but is usually the result of an underlying illness. FWS is usually an early identifier of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which is defined by the involuntary loss of 10% of baseline body weight in combination with diarrhea, weakness, fever, and is considered an AIDS-defining illness.
As patients with HIV live longer, healthier lives due to the advances in medicine in the last decade, many are seeking surgical treatment of facial wasting syndrome. In Beverly Hills, Dr. William J. Binder, Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon, has developed and perfected the use of custom-designed facial implants for the treatment of FWS, as well as for facial rejuvenation and other aging processes. Fillers show promise as well, however depending on the amount of material to be injected and the frequency of the injections, because they do not last longer than a few months, the maintenance costs to the patient make this treatment less than optimal.
Dr. Binder has used this procedure with great success, proving that custom implants provide a safe, effective, aesthetically pleasing, and long-lasting solution to the problem of facial atrophy which occurs in 50% of patients with HIV who receive highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Dr. Binder has pioneered several advances in plastic surgery techniques aside from custom facial implants. He also discovered the use of Botox for the treatment of migraine headaches, was one of the first surgeons to develop and lecture on the nasal grafting techniques used currently in closed structure Beverly Hills Rhinoplasty, and holds ten U.S. and worldwide patents on medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Dr. Binder most frequently performs rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, or Beverly Hills nose surgery and strongly supports the philosophy that nasal surgery must achieve consistent and natural-looking results.

Poke Dunk High

JBF used a customer’s personal design to create his latest pair of Nike Dunk Highs. These custom Dunks were created awhile ago but JBF has been too busy with other projects to post the Poke Dunk Highs. I found JBF’s Dunks at the Nike Talk post linked here.

The designer used a red/black colorway with gold heels to create a rich look. The gold heels match the gold bear outline drawn on both shoes. The bear has small blue eyes and a golden paw reaching up to his mouth. This expression may indicate surprise or a polite afterthought during a midday meal; either way, JBF did a great job conveying the playfulness of this cute character.

While JBF’s client gave the designer a clear image to recreate, JBF did an awesome job producing clean sneaker art. He has indicated that he is willing to do additional customs for readers who email blaise28@gmail.com. Aish is pregnant?!?!

There have been rumours of Aishwarya Rai being pregnant several times. Although the actress refused to even comment on the rumours in the past, hubby Abhishek has denied the rumours earlier. Now again there is speculation that Ash is pregnant. Recently Ash was seen at Lilavati hospital on the floor where the maternity ward is.

Ash has further added to the pregnancy reports when she recently threw a few grains outside her Juhu home, which is a sign of asking for protection from God when one leaves home. Ash was seen throwing grains outside her home recently and many astrologers have predicted this as a sign to ward off evil and ask for protection in the Hindu custom, especially done when a woman is pregnant. The Bachchans are known to be extremely devout; they often visit holy places and perform pujas. Ash however has many film commitments and hence one wonders what will happen of them if the rumours of the actress pregnancy is true.

BC Liquor Stores will unveil a limited-edition, single bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII Black Pearl at the 39th and Cambie Street, Canada. Black Pearl is a limited edition cognac from Rémy Martin’s stock of Louis XIII. Only one tiercon (a type of oak barrel) will be used, meaning only 786 bottles are available for purchase. The custom decanter, hand-crafted by artisans at Baccarat, is black crystal with platinum accents. The Louis XIII cognac inside contains a blend of more than 1,200 lots up to 100 years old.

BC Liquor Stores spokewoman Katherine Jeffcoatt said B.C. is the first provincial liquor store in Canada to order and receive the extremely limited product. She also said it is the most expensive bottle of booze ever sold in a B.C. Liquor Store. Besides the high-priced cognac, the bottle comes with a special case to keep the bottle safe. Price: $35,000.

Cherry Creek Off Center Ring
I like things that are just a little off. If you do as well then this ring is for you. I purposely soldered this off center. Just a little bit of imperfection for your finger. This ring is a size 7 but will fit a little more like a 6 1/2 or 6 3/4 because the band is wide. The band measures almost a 1/2 an inch at its widest part, this band tapers slightly from end to end. It has been hammered and filed to give it some more character.

Scooby Doo Dunks

In preparation of his upcoming Scooby Doo Dunks, D@ Prince Customs has posted the first version of the shoes at the Nike Talk thread linked here. The designer has been busy in recent months with customs based on other cartoons including Winnie the Pooh and Dora the Explorer. His sophomore approach with Scooby Doo imagery is going to need to be extraordinary to surpass what he has done with these Dunks.

The left shoe is painted with the words Scooby Doo in purple and orange lettering similar to the opening sequence of the cartoon. The right shoe shows Scooby in action, looking back with fear as a ghost or zombie chases the gang. D@ Prince Customs added his crown logo behind Scooby’s image while writing out D@ Prince Customs on the left heel.

My favorite part of the original Scooby Doo Dunks was the “SD” lace lock designed to look like Scooby’s collar tag. I will write with an update once D@ Prince has made his second version of the shoes but his skills are pretty clear with these custom Dunks.

Custom Fabric Printing from Spoonflower

Spoonflower is your typical web-based digital textile printing service run out of an old sock mill in downtown Mebane, North Carolina. Indigo has mentioned them previously in relation to the very apt Wordle.

At the moment the site is in Beta and as such does not offer any facility as an online marketplace or shared repository, but they will do in the next phase. This from their FAQs:

“When we come out of beta, … you will be able to choose to make your designs available for purchase by others. This feature — which will make Spoonflower into a marketplace for independent fabric designers — will probably take some time to evolve and grow in complexity. But displaying your designs, as well as selling them, will ALWAYS be under your control.”

Looks like another good opportunity for makers, keep up with their progress on their blog, where the Spoonflower folk also post pictures of their beta users’ creations.
