Just when I’ve sworn that my eyes can not bare anymore neon for at least another decade, comes a mouth-watering editorial, entitled “Love on Top of Love”, from the 77th issue of Oyster Magazine shot by Christoper Katke that leaves me in utter lust. I am a sucker for vibrant colors but the last year has been quite abusive of them in the urban realm of style (or non style). The mix of the Balenciaga florals with the vintage brights of Sonia Rykiel and Dolce & Gabanna and the 80’s architectural haircuts are so on point and yet better than ever before.

I am on a family trip to Taiwan and thought it would be fun and interesting to throw in a few gems that I find here. I could do the basic Gucci, LV and Chanel which are everly so popular here but how boring would that be? People here line up out the door to the Gucci boutique just to buy the GG canvas bags by the balefuls! Maybe if they start rioting I could get a story =) I was at the new Sogo yesterday, it is the big department store that has boutiques for Hermes, Chanel, Balenciaga, Marni, Mulberry, etc. but none of those caught my eye like this one did. Among all the international designers was this local line, I am embarrassed to say I don't read Chinese so I can't tell you what the brand is, but it is spectacularly wrong. I think it is a pirate skull with a tiara, but look at the earrings - knife and fork?? I am reserving my judgment, I will let you decide what you think of this very interesting bag. The price tag at least is bearable, around $200 USD. But then, you would have to own this bag and what would you do with it?

Sarah Jessica Parker: in a Balmain cocktail dress, and Balenciaga pumps. Carrie Bradshaw one said “When men attempt bold gestures, generally it’s considered romantic. When women do it, it’s often considered desperate or psycho.” I consider mutating Balmain for red carpet purposes to be a very bold gesture. The off the shoulder modification adds a certain amount of saucy effort that isn’t desirable- Psycho. The salt is for the poor dress. Please refer to Anja’s runway arrangement for the appropriate representation.
Nicole Kidman: in Dries Van Noten and Pierre Hardy Pumps. Again, this dress has been severely distorted from the original artist’s vision. Easy, “accessible” and “Pragmatic” are all things that describe the Dries woman. Body-conscious with a clichéd silhouette is quite the contrary. The age of the (overpaid) stylist is a sad one.
Miley Cyrus: in Marchesa. A number of issues are preventing Miley from being the light, airless princess Marchesa designs for… one being her thighs.

I have mentioned before in this post that many campaigns are doing multi-girls this season. Apparently, some blue chip campaigns will be flooded with new faces…

Here’s a brief list:

Balenciaga: 10 models

Chloe: cut down to 2 models (not 8, my apologies)

Prada: 8 models

Miu Miu: 8 models + 1 celeb (Katie Holmes)

GAP: 15 models

The good new about this trend is that many models are going to get enough campaign work and exposure but with a cast of 8, 9… it definitely lessen the significance of being in a blue chip campaign because one might just be the many others who got their big break. For example, “Ymre is the only girl for Prada” and “Ymre is one of the 8 girls for Prada”—– makes a lot of difference. Unless it is 7 veterans plus one new girl, then it might just be as good as an only-girl campaign. And remember the Gucci Fall 08′ campaign? Kasia and Ksenia were blurred to the max in the background in contrast with Lily Donaldson and gang. Which means, in the end of the day, someone would surely be the main star (for the eyewear individual shots) and also not forgetting the possibility of certain model’s shot being cancelled— that might the case for Miu Miu— how will the eight models be in the same shot as Katie Holmes?

I am very interested to see how the results are going to be like in the coming February.
