It’s time for the usual monday mega post and this time, I am going to write a long one regarding the local editorial scene.

Firstly, get to know the local fashion photographer duo Chuando & Frey, who were regulars at Style: and BAZAAR before moving on to become the creative directors of L’Officiel. They still shoot editorials and covers for each of the mentioned magazines once in a while.

One of their most famous work to date is shooting Janet Jackson’s ‘Discipline’ album cover and images:

What I have identified their photography style is that they always make the model look ultra edgy, fierce and smoking hot. They shoot mostly in studios and the shots are very polished and sharp, there is always this certain ‘metal’ feel about it.

Chuando also owns the local Avenue modelling agency which has a impressive list of models under its name.

Coco Rocha

Coco came here for experience when she was younger— way before she became famous during the Fall 06′ season.

Alana Kuznetsova

Alana is currently seen in the Vogue Paris 2009 calendar, the very first— January girl. She was on the cover of L’Officiel SG for July 08′.

Sophie Srej

This entire shoot—taken from Style: November 08′— is so va-va-voom that I could hardly believe it is Sophie Srej, the Hungarian stunner who walked down the Calvin Klein runway as an exclusive and also the much coveted Prada runway this season. Way to work it girl!

Serafima Vakulenko

Serafima— currently starring in the BCBG Fall 08′ ads alongside Tanya Dziahileva—acted up naughty in this editorial, found in the very latest December 08′ Style: magazine.

Monika Jagaciak

This is the Ashley Isham Spring 08′ ad. She is the model that had sparked controversy for being too young.

Emma Karlson

This editorial, is too stunning for words. It is also pretty nice to see Chuando & Frey working with more sultry colours and a full blown Geisha theme. Emma walked the Chanel Fall 07′ runway, and she appeared on the cover of Vogue Greece for October 08′ (that shot is a reprint of an Australian Vogue editorial though).

This French beauty, as you all know, opened Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and closed the Prada Spring 09′ show, and she will be starring in the upcoming campaign. Before all that happened, she dropped by this little island here during summer 2007 for work, according to her video at models.com

The most defining trend of the 1990s was undoubtedly grunge. And since the 80s revival has reached its peak and is on the steady decline, it's the 90s that are next in turn - grunge naturally included. This neo-grunge takes the ripped denim trend firmly in its stride; and along with it comes another trend: laddered stockings.

Leather Jackets Autumn Winter 08

Leather just seems to be every where at the moment. Leather jackets have always been popular but leather trousers and dresses are also every where this year. The leather biker jacket is probably the most common leather jacket and is a firm favourite among the celebrities but this winter there are a number of other trends around including smarter leather blazers and leather coats. The great thing about leather is that it is one of the only pieces of clothing that you will own that improves with age.

At Givenchy - an all black outfit was finished off with a cape style leather jacket. The cape almost looked military in its style and is an eye catching bold style statement.

At Alexander McQueen - a classic leather blazer gave an edgy look to a long style tailored jacket and trousers.

Rick Owens is well known for his must have leather jackets. This autumn and winter he created some really innovative styles with panels sewn together to create oversized jackets.

At D Squared - a butter soft leather jacket with smart buttons and and details for a sexy but sophisticated look.

This Almost Famous leather jacket is a right on trend for this year with lovely soft leather and chiffon collar, waistband and cuffs.

The Jays Chat About Operation Fabulous

The Salt Lake Tribune wrote a nice profile about J Alexander and Jay Manuel as the took a break from filming Operation Fabulous. The show, which they are calling a cross between ANTM and Extreme Makeover, was picked up by the CW and is expected to air in 2009.

CW expects the show to do well because of the Jays chemistry and the different elements they each bring to the table.

“Jay is your parent in tough love. He tells you the way it is, but only because he wants you to be the best you can be,” CW president Dawn Ostroff said. “As much as Miss J criticizes and rolls his eyes, deep down, he’s just looking for the girl who can get it done.”

The Jays promise that Operation Fabulous will be far less cut-throat than ANTM.

“But we like working with real women too,” Jay said. “We want them to feel good about themselves. We aren’t giving them ‘makeovers’ on ‘Operation Fabulous.’ I actually hate the word ‘makeover.’ We’re teaching them to enhance and maintain what they’ve already got.”

Hats off to Taylor Momsen on her choice of these Alexander Wang denim shorts, she's only the second celebrity we've spotted wearing these: the first was Kate Moss, 'nuff said.

We can see denim shorts like these becoming popular at least for the summer, if boyfriend jeans are your thing. Even though they've been met with resounding hatred in the fashion trend voting.

La Senza London Trip, Part 2 - Claire explores Marylebone High Street

After my trip to the La Senza preview, I was meeting up with a friend, so I did some work in Starbucks (so much easier to work in a cafe than in my room, due to lack of computer). After finishing that, I thought I'd check out Marylebone High Street as it was very near by and I thought "Hmm I should start my Christmas shopping".

Shops which I looked into, mostly which I'd never been in before!

Comptoir des Cottonniers - I tried on a v nice blue sweater dress, which was 30% off and would have been reasonable, but I just wasn't 100% sure on it. It had a slightly funy fit around my stomach. Still, I'd never tried on their clothes and I was impressed by their range. Seemed ike quite reasonable prices too.

Patisserie Valerie - a patisserie where we ate lunch. It was v busy. You could tell it was your non-student clientele, when the people who were sat next to us had a Prada bag from a couple of seasons ago and that it was mojority "adults" and older people. I want to be fab when I'm older too!

Charity shops! So much better than Oxford ones! I only had a quick look, but there were some good names in there, even with shoes. Obviously, the prices reflected this, but it's for charity and the things were much better than mine.

Matches - I was excited by this! I'd only been to the online shop, never been in before!! They were very friendly too in there, offering me a drink and to take my bags away (neither accepted, I didn't dare spill anything on the clothes). Mostly it was Diane Von Furstenburg, with some McQueen and some Alexander Wang too. I even felt the green Zagliane bag which I'd seen in The Times Style section (conclusion? Not soft, I thought those bags were meant to be soft??) and came very close to trying on an Herve Leger bandage dress. It'd definitely be a shop which I'd go to in the future (perhaps in January sales?).

All in all, a good day out!!! I liked the area very much, and though it's not feasible next year, maybe I would consider living there in the future. I'd have liked it if the market was on too...

Sneak peek at Alexander McQueen for Target

After hearing the news that Matthew Williamson will be designing a line for H&M, we’re quite sad that McQueen didn’t decide to collaborate at some point with the Swedish retailer too. Naturally, our reasons are selfish. Being that we’re not based in the U.S, getting our hands on a piece from McQueen for Target will be très difficile and what’s the point of an exclusive collaboration if we can’t all play?

The images above are of pieces from the up-coming line on which the designer says he had full control. Speaking to WWD McQueen said,

“I can’t work with any kind of restraints. You can’t give me any boundaries.”
