Edita Vilkeviciute. She must be something, to be able to go from walking the Victoria’s Secret fashion show to starring in Karl’s short directorial debut as the lengendary Coco Chanel. Sexy and classy?
That must be some versatility.

Local spotlight

December 1, 2008 · 2 Comments

It’s time for the usual monday mega post and this time, I am going to write a long one regarding the local editorial scene.

Firstly, get to know the local fashion photographer duo Chuando & Frey, who were regulars at Style: and BAZAAR before moving on to become the creative directors of L’Officiel. They still shoot editorials and covers for each of the mentioned magazines once in a while.

One of their most famous work to date is shooting Janet Jackson’s ‘Discipline’ album cover and images:

coverjanetjacksondiscipre9

What I have identified their photography style is that they always make the model look ultra edgy, fierce and smoking hot. They shoot mostly in studios and the shots are very polished and sharp, there is always this certain ‘metal’ feel about it.

Chuando also owns the local Avenue modelling agency which has a impressive list of models under its name.

(*The following shots are all photographed by Chuando & Frey)

Coco Rocha

Coco came here for experience when she was younger— way before she became famous during the Fall 06′ season.

Alana Kuznetsova

Alana is currently seen in the Vogue Paris 2009 calendar, the very first— January girl. She was on the cover of L’Officiel SG for July 08′.

Sophie Srej

This entire shoot—taken from Style: November 08′— is so va-va-voom that I could hardly believe it is Sophie Srej, the Hungarian stunner who walked down the Calvin Klein runway as an exclusive and also the much coveted Prada runway this season. Way to work it girl!

Serafima Vakulenko

11199_3_122_106lo

Serafima— currently starring in the BCBG Fall 08′ ads alongside Tanya Dziahileva—acted up naughty in this editorial, found in the very latest December 08′ Style: magazine.

Monika Jagaciak

56578_02bigpo1_122_76lo1

This is the Ashley Isham Spring 08′ ad. She is the model that had sparked controversy for being too young.

Emma Karlson

79639107cv81

This editorial, is too stunning for words. It is also pretty nice to see Chuando & Frey working with more sultry colours and a full blown Geisha theme. Emma walked the Chanel Fall 07′ runway, and she appeared on the cover of Vogue Greece for October 08′ (that shot is a reprint of an Australian Vogue editorial though).

Other models who are under Ave, and had been or are going to be here in Singapore soon:

  • Denisa Dvorakova
  • Zuzanna Straska
  • Anya Kazakova — she  walked Prada and opened Calvin Klein remember?
  • Gwen Lu
  • Sigrid Agren

Speaking of Sigrid Agren, my senior found an issue of local Seventeen magazine with her in it. Starring in an editorial called ”The Princess Diaries” where she was styled into different socialites’ looks.

Sigrid as…

Paris Hilton

120108194142

as Kimberly Stewart

120108194200

as Ivanka Trump

120108194228

This French beauty, as you all know, opened Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and closed the Prada Spring 09′ show, and she will be starring in the upcoming campaign. Before all that happened, she dropped by this little island here during summer 2007 for work, according to her video at models.com

Australian models have also flown here quite frequently for test shoots and for portfolio before they head to New York. Some examples are Alice Burdue and Catherine McNeil:

Kenneth Goh, the fashion director of BAZAAR SG (who also styled those Janet Jackson images), put McNeil on the November 06′ cover without a casting.

Guess that’s all for now. Till any further updates, stay tuned!

Milla le dynamic

November 30, 2008 · 4 Comments

Milla Jovovich has so many multi successful career roles—– actress, singer, designer (Jovovich-Hawk)—– sometimes I would forget that she is indeed a good model. I am loving many of her recent work:

This editorial is so hardcore 80s’. I would have thought that it is straight out of an 80s’ photo album. Maybe it’s the way she hold the cigarette, maybe it’s the Elvis hair, Milla evokes a supreme sense of retro chic-ness that is hard to ignore.

And it comes in big groups (correction)

November 27, 2008 · No Comments

I have mentioned before in this post that many campaigns are doing multi-girls this season. Apparently, some blue chip campaigns will be flooded with new faces…

Here’s a brief list:

Balenciaga: 10 models

Chloe: cut down to 2 models (not 8, my apologies)

Prada: 8 models

Miu Miu: 8 models + 1 celeb (Katie Holmes)

GAP: 15 models

The good news about this trend is that many models are going to get enough campaign work and exposure but with a cast of 8, 9… it definitely lessen the significance of being in a blue chip campaign because one might just be the many others who got their big break. For example, “Ymre is the only girl for Prada” and “Ymre is one of the 8 girls for Prada”—– makes a lot of difference. Unless it is 7 veterans plus one new girl, then it might just be as good as an only-girl campaign. And remember the Gucci Fall 08′ campaign? Kasia and Ksenia were blurred to the max in the background in contrast with Lily Donaldson and gang. Which means, in the end of the day, someone would surely be the main star (for the eyewear individual shots) and also not forgetting the possibility of certain model’s shot being cancelled— that might the case for Miu Miu— how will the eight models be in the same shot as Katie Holmes?

I am very interested to see how the results are going to be like in the coming February.

The muse of Milan

November 26, 2008 · 5 Comments

Toni must be feeling a lot of love from the Italians.

00140m

Checkout her Spring 09′ campaign list:

  • Emporio Armani
  • Etro
  • Fendi
  • Hugo Boss Black
  • Prada
  • Versace Fragrance
  • Shiseido Cle de Peau

… and she is on the cover of November Vogue Italia.

To be honest, she has everything that she needs to become super major— Meisel’s favour, walking the runways and being the face of both Calvin Klein and Prada. Toni’s upstart is definitely every model’s dream.

Project prom dress

November 26, 2008 · 8 Comments

Visited my secondary school’s prom just now…

Photobucket prom25  prom9  prom31  prom262

I managed to take some quick photos with the girls before they head into the ballroom. It was really fun seeing them in my creations, the dresses are entirely custom made for them by me. I like the purple one with chiffon the best! The lighting for the last two photos are bad (I forgot the flash) but I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Shot by Terry Richardson, styled by Carine Roitfeld

Cover: Eniko Mihalik
Jan: Alana Kuznetsova
Feb: Hanne Gaby Odele
March: Taryn Davidson
April: Anna Jagodzinska
May: Anna Selezneva
June: Erin Heatherton
July: Ali Michael
Aug: Jourdan Dunn
Sept: Georgina Stojikovich
Oct: Lakshmi Menon
Nov: Aline Weber
Dec: Arlenis Sosa
Solar months: Liu Wen

I am crossing my fingers that this issue will be available here in Singapore along with the calendar. I like the theme of pin-up girls that Carine picked, and having Terry Richardson to shoot them, which make it look very retro. Doesn’t the image of models being dressed up, smiling and giving cheeky pose put a smile on your face? Definitely an eye candy.
