Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows I’m not a gusher, unless I truly love something (like Neiman Marcus customer service or AOA or 518Living) I don’t sing praises. But today I have to gush.
As I’ve mentioned, we get tons (make that hundreds) of books sent here monthly from publisher or authors hoping for reviews. All the dating, style and relationship books come my way. Most I donate, some I save for future column reference and a select few I read for enjoyment.
Lisa Daily’s “Fifteen Minutes of Shame” was one of those books. I chose Daily’s novel because of her name. I interviewed the dating columnist back in my NightCap days and have followed her since.
This novel isn’t deep (but most chick lit is not), yet it’s the well-told, witty tale of Darby Vaughn, a woman known to America as the Dr. Phil of Dating. That is, until the queen of romance finds out her husband is cheating— in front of a live national television audience. After her husband’s lies are exposed, Darby’s fifteen minutes of fame quickly becomes fifteen minutes of shame. Not only is the humiliating moment of her life splashed across every supermarket tabloid and celebrity gossip show, but her reputation as the country’s love guru is shot. (more…)
